a wrinkle in the ground creates a concrete tabletop that seamlessly hangs in a state of groundedness and flight
For a lobby renovation project, our guiding principles were “flight” and “airiness”. With these concepts, I designed a reception desk for a lobby renovation of an office space. The tabletop rises seamlessly from the ground, as if the concrete flooring was sliced and lifted up into the air. The smooth concrete curves gently transition between ADA-accessible and counter-top heights before returning back down to the floor. Thin metal supports rise across and up from the ground to the levitating countertop, literally “stitching up” the exposed ground.
